Description: The vessel is a "Juno" class yacht with open cockpit and lock up cabin on a cast iron
fm keel and spade hung rudder with tiller steering. Designed by E G Van De Stadt.. Built in
Melbourne, Victoria, mid 76s. A very popular, small, knock about keel yacht for easy build
construction in timber and plywood with good sailing ability.
Dimensions: Length 22.3 feet x 7.5 feet beam x 3.5 feet draught (6.7 mt x 2 mt x 3 mt).
Construction: This yacht is a mono hull, made of Marine Plywood and Dynal sheeting over a full
frame, single chine hull, deck and cabin also in plywood over timber beams. It has a self draining
cockpit. All copper and stainless steel fastenings are used in the glued traditional construction. There
is a bolt on cast iron fin keel for ballast and as mentioned there is a large spade hung steel rudder with
tiller steering in the cockpit. Displacement is around 1499 kg ..
I. On inspection of the yacht, I found the hull, deck and cabin is well built to a professional standard
and in good condition with no sign of any major structural problems or leaks, the bilge is dry and
clean. All keel bolts are stainless steel with backing plates and appeared to be in good condition.
The paint work inside and out is in very good condition. All windows and hatches are sealed or
lockable with no sign of water leaks.
2. Inside the lock up cabin, the timber fit out is in good condition with galley facilities and bunks for
overnight accommodation, giving protection for the crew from the elements. All frames and
stringers appeared to be well fixed to the hull with no movement. The mast support post is in
good condition.
3. The yacht has a single mast and boom made of extruded aluminum section with one set of
spreaders, all appeared to be in good condition as was the stainless steel standing rigging. All the
wire rigging was replaced 3 years ago, the running rigging is wire and rope, all swages and fittings
appeared in good condition and well fixed to the hull. The spars are painted with 2 pack paint,
there is some slight surface corrosion around some fittings and the base of the mast step. This is
only cosmetic and does not effect the structural strength of the mast. The mast was inspected from
deck level.
4. The sail locker consists of one mainsail and 4 various size head sails and I spinnaker, all appeared
to be in good to average condition and made of Dacron sail cloth.
